There is Beauty

The 2018 Youth Conference was really something else. For that one week of prep before conference, I really felt that God gave me the clarity to see His hand moving in all moments that led up to that week, or to hear about His work through others (s/o Tita Lorena). It was like every day was another day of just awe of His perfect timing, another showering of His love through just being in the presence of new and old friends and having the privilege to serve and journey with them. I know it’s sappy - but that’s really what it was!!

During a moment of adoration after daily Mass for conference week, all the words to this song came out. I walked outside St. Thomas and recorded a very rough first take hahhahahhaha. Later that week I sat down with Rainier and we figured out the chords - super quick turnaround overall. Buuut then I lost the notebook with the chords in it, and always said I would figure it out but never did. Two years later here we are! Two days before I promised I’d play this song, Rainier and I cranked out the chords and it has passed the “good enough” check.

At the core, this song is really about allowing God into my imperfections, and trying to let Him create something beautiful out of it. (Saint Paul, our conference patron saint, was hinting at me for these lyrics for sure.) It’s a callback to those moments of 2018 YCON that were a testament of God weaving through all of our weaknesses and trials to create something for His glory, while growing together in the process. And now it is a reminder for these moments when things are not very certain, and He isn’t as obviously present - that He can still create art with it all.
